If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I got a juicer fairly recently, and have been juicing up a storm most days since. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll have seen me whinging about feeling really rather pants since I got back from Snowdon. It’s true, that mountain really took it out on me and I have developed tonsilitis. Oh yes, oh yay!
Anyway, I’m going to make a weekly feature out of my juicing escapades. Juicing is a great way of using up fruit and vegetables and the health benefits are second to none. Drinking a fresh juice gives your body a zingy hit of vitamins and enzymes that you just don’t get from shop bought juice.
To start with I’m easing you in gently with a tasty fruit smoothie. This week I’ve been making a lot of orange juice, mainly in an attempt to stave off my illness. Everyone knows oranges contain vitamin C, but they are also a source of calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, and copper.
To this, I’ve added a couple of apples, and blended with a banana, ice, and manuka honey, for a tasty cold-busting smoothie.

Peel the oranges (the skin is bitter), but leave the pith on. Add to the juicer with two apples, and juice the lot. For the love of God, don’t juice the banana – it will wreck your machine. Instead, chop it up and chuck in a blender with a few ice cubes and a teaspoon of manuka honey. Pour over your beautiful fresh orange and apple juice and blend together. You’ll end up with a creamy, sweet ice cold smoothie which will soothe a sore throat and perk you up a little.

My sore throat breakfast: scratchy peanut butter toast, and my orange, apple, banana and manuka honey smoothie.
Do you have any favourite juicy drinks? Let me know what they are and I’ll give them a go!

Hope you feel better soon

This looks delicious! I’ve always wanted a juicer, but can’t get away with buying ANOTHER kitchen gadget. I had a Vitamix in the last house I lived in, and it was truly amazing. Have you tried throwing oats and spinach into smoothies? x
